As commercial services using drones take off and their recreational use becomes ever more popular, it must be ensured that they pose no threat to public safety or personal privacy, said MEPs in a resolution passed on Thursday at the initiative of theTransport Committee.

A complete ban on roaming charges for using mobile phones abroad in the EU will take effect in June 2017 and clear rules on the right to internet access will become law following Parliament's final approval of the new telecoms package on Tuesday.

The Studienstiftung des Abgeordnetenhauses was founded by the Berlin House of Representatives in 1994 as a late sign of gratitude to the Allied Forces who occupied, befriended, and protected Berlin and its citizens for almost fifty years after the end of World War II. In order to promote the development of the transport sector, the European Commission initiated BESTFACT Project (under the EU's 7th Franework Programme) joining 11 partners - universities and consulting companies - from 8 countries: Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Germany and Lithuania. The leader of the consortium is the company PTV (Planung Transport Verkehr) AG from Germany. The Competence Centre of Intermodal Transport and Logistics (CCITL) of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is also among the partners of the Consortium. The Centre has accumulated extensive research experience via cooperation in the international EU research networks.

''QS World University Rankings'' has recently published a list of the best universities in the region of ''Emerging Europe and Central Asia 2015–2016'', with three Lithuanian higher education institutions in the top 50 ranking positions.

Valentina Dagienė, professor of the VU Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, and Dr. Wolfgang Pohl received the European Award in recognition of the outstanding educational initiative "Bebras" ("Beaver" in English). The winners of the International Contest on Informatics and Computer Fluency were declared by the European Association "Informatics Europe" during the annual ceremony in Vienna.
