May 9-10th, 2017, the 4th international scientific conference, Modern Economics, was held at Mykolas Romeris University. The conference is held in conjunction with Poland's University of Szczecin.

The European Commission has approved three schemes to support electricity production from small-scale onshore wind, solar and sewage gas installations in France under EU state aid rules. The schemes will allow France to develop more than 17 additional gigawatts in renewable energy.

On 4 May, Aleksandras Stulginskis University and the public institution “African studies and consultations” signed implementation agreements for Lithuania’s bilateral development cooperation projects at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Hamlet, one of the most famous productions of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, directed by Vidas Bareikis, will be shown on the main stage of the Theatre with English translation on Friday, 12 May. The translation is being provided by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) teacher Dainora Maumevičienė, and technical translation students.

Design Week is the major design festival in Lithuania, first organised in 2006. In the first week of May six Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Telšiai and Anykščiai are joining the design fest, which invites citizens and city guests to get to know local and overseas design tendencies.

Lithuania's proposed higher education overhaul does not envisage closing any universities, Education and Science Minister Jurgita Petrauskiene said on Tuesday after presenting the planned reform to the ruling coalition.

Earlier this year, Italian high technology enterprise Gruppo FOS Lithuania has opened its headquarters in Kaunas Science and Technology Park at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Santaka Valley. The main reason for Gruppo FOS coming to Lithuania was collaboration with KTU and Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in creating biomedical electronic post-stroke monitoring systems.

This weekend, April 28–30 Kaunas will become a jazz capital of Lithuania – the 26th jazz festival Kaunas Jazz will take place. Kaunas citizens and guests are invited to enjoy a whole range of events in various locations.
