Probably many Lithuanians would leave the country without hesitation to enjoy the warm Florida’s sun at least for some time. Meanwhile, 22-year old resident of this state Ty Yamnitz has done the opposite and chose to pursue his career in Lithuania. Floridian was looking for a change and decided to choose his dream studies in aviation in an unknown European country; and, so, he came to Lithuania.

The market of small satellites has been growing rapidly since 2000. In 2018, approximately 300 small satellites were launched, which is almost three times as many as in 2016. Reduced satellite launch costs and investments from venture capital funds had major influence on the market growth. In addition, the development of the internet of things and machine communication also increased the demand for small satellites. The new opportunities in space industry are also of interest to Lithuanian business and science community. We talk about the trends of the industry with Laurynas Mačiulis, the man behind the idea of the first Lithuanian satellite, PhD candidate and the leader of the Satellite System Research Group at Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU).

As a university student, I studied English as my major or concentration. In addition, I took the extra courses that were required to be able to obtain a teaching certificate. For years as an employed teacher in the United States, I became accustomed to focusing on poor spelling and poor grammar with American students. Six years ago, I moved to China, where I was hired to teach middle and high school English to students from all over the world. This new job provided me with the opportunity to be a student of English all over again.

The Centenary of Lithuania has been celebrated not only by various events across the year all over the country and abroad, but also by creating dedicated products and collections of art. One of these is a home textile collection “Sentiments” created by a team of artists and textile engineers, devoted to the unique nature and heritage of Curonian Spit. Recently the collection was introduced as a part of Lithuanian exhibition in China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

Vilnius University’s (VU) Faculty of Medicine together with the Department of Doctoral and Postdoctoral studies organized its first-ever workshop in scientific writing for fourteen MD/PhD students from the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences Centre. The guest instructor was Terese Bergfors from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Uppsala University (Sweden) and a former journal editor.

First in the Baltic States Centre for Military Marine Technologies will be opened in Klaipėda, according to the institutional agreement signed by Lithuanian Navy, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, and Baltic Institute of Advanced Technologies, Baltic Technology Park and Institute of Digital Technologies.

The Seimas of Lithuania on Thursday endorsed plans to merge Mykolas Romeris University with Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, with 84 votes in favor, no votes against and two abstentions.

The Seimas ratified the Agreement signed by the governments of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, on the Automatic Academic Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education. The intergovernmental Agreement was signed in Vilnius on 8 June 2018.

Earlier this month, the results of national study fields ranking was announced. KTU is a leader in 12 undergraduate and in 8 master’s fields of study, which is the second best result in Lithuania. The ranking was carried out and announced in the magazine “Reitingai”.
