Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister and Palestinian Assistant Minister on European Affairs discuss region’s situation and future cooperation2019-09-16, 16:30On 13 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with Amal Jadou, Assistant Minister on European Affairs at the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting discussed the situation in the Middle East and prospects for bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Palestine. The state of play on Brexit, a vote on the next ECB president and a debate on how to tackle Amazon forest fires will be on the agenda of the next plenary session on 16-19 September. On 11-12 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in the meeting of the Nordic and Baltic (NB8) Foreign Ministers in Reykjavik, Iceland. The meeting focused on issues of importance to all countries in the region, including regional security challenges, cyber and hybrid threats, relations with Russia and China, the situation in Ukraine, items on the EU agenda, the Arctic, climate change, and other issues. President Gitanas Nausėda met with Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf. Cooperation in defense, economy and culture was discussed at the meeting. L. Linkevičius meets with Georgian leaders, discusses country’s steps towards EU and NATO integration2019-09-10, 12:36On 9 September, the sixth meeting of the Lithuanian-Georgian Commission for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration was held in Tbilisi. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and David Zakaliani co-chaired the meeting. In a report published on 5 September 2019, the EU confirms for yet another year its position as largest global exporter of agri-food products, with EU exports reaching €138 billion in 2018. President Gitanas Nausėda met with President of the European Council Donald Tusk to discuss the EU strategic agenda, the multiannual financial framework, Brexit, global politics, and energy security, including the Ostravets nuclear power plant. Deividas Matulionis, First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, has had a meeting with President of the Japan BioIndustry Association, Osamu Nagayama. During the visit to Brussels, the President met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss the security situation and challenges in the Baltic region, international security and defense issues. The President informed NATO Secretary General of Lithuania’s plans to continue to increase defense funding. |
