Travelling between Vilnius and Kaunas will only take 38 minutes, reaching Warsaw, Riga and Tallinn by train will be faster than by plane, and Vilnius Airport will be easily accessible to Polish and Latvian citizens. These are only some of the main benefits for citizens and businesses after the completion of the connection between Kaunas and Vilnius in the Rail Baltica project, which were discussed at the remote meeting “Rail Baltica in Lithuania: its value for the regions”.

The Government approved the proposal of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation to allow companies registered in Lithuania to form their names in a foreign language using letters of the Latin alphabet. These amendments to the Civil Code and the Law on the State Language still have to be approved by the Seimas.

After nearly half a year, Narbutas Business Lounge, located in the departures area of Vilnius Airport, resumes its activities. From May 1st, travellers will again be able to use the services of the lounge - the space adapted for work or rest and providing more privacy before the flight.

As the summer season of aviation is gaining momentum, from May 2021, passengers at Lithuanian airports will be able to choose from even more direct flights. According to current plans of the airlines, there will be almost 40 routes for business, leisure and business travel operated at the three airports of Lithuania.

As it has been agreed by NATO allies to start the withdrawal of troops from Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan on May 1, the Lithuanian Armed Forces is beginning to pull out military personnel. Just like all the NATO allies, Lithuania will apply every precaution necessary in the process. Information on concrete numbers of returning troops or dates of redeployment will not be publicly available in the course of withdrawal.

By accord between the Lithuanian and Russian negotiating groups, Lithuanian carriers have been ensured a sufficient number of annual permits for freight transport between Lithuania and the Russian Federation as well as by transiting the country. This year, our carriers will receive around 40% more permits than in 2020.

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland express their conviction that the ideas set forth in the Constitution of 3 May and the Mutual Pledge laid the foundations for the civic political identity in Lithuania and Poland, the countries that are present-day successors of the Commonwealth of the Two Nations. This was emphasised in the Resolution adopted by the Seimas today. The Resolution also highlights the exceptional importance of the Constitution of 1791 for the Polish and Lithuanian nations and honours the constitutional heritage and its role today.

This week, Lithuanian Airports have signed a contract with a Latvian construction company A.C.B. The latter plans to reconstruct, already in the autumn of this year, Palanga Airport runway, also the taxiway and some parts of the apron of the airport. This company already has experience in reconstructing Vilnius Airport runway in 2017. The company, which won the public procurement contract, will perform all contract work for 13.6 million euros (exclusive of VAT).

50 vaccination booths and up to 15 000 of vaccines to residents per day – these are the capacities which Vilnius will add to its vaccination base from the beginning of next week, opening up another COVID-19 mass vaccination centre at the exhibition and congress centre Litexpo.
