Its story began when the Act of Independence of Lithuania was declared and formation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces started: the Lithuanian Armed Forces command made a decision to establish a war museum in Kaunas. The works were interrupted but later resumed by General Vladas Nagevičius who managed to direct reconstruction of an old riding hall used by Tsarist forces and a chapel into a space exhibiting the history of Lithuania’s fights within just four weeks. Thus Vytautas the Great War Museum was inaugurated on 16 February 1921. |
