PoliticsStatement of the Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the Situation in Ukraine2014-08-30, 09:20We condemn on the strongest terms the invasion into Ukraine's territory by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. Focused actions of the Russian Federation violating bilateral and multilateral agreements on Ukraine's soveregnity and territorial integrity, and its direct support of terrorist military units threaten not only Ukraine's or its neighbours' security, but also security of EU and NATO member states and stability in Europe. The meeting of the political council of ruling coalition took place yesterday. At the end of the meeting the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania announced that it is leaving the coalition of four parties. Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office was informed by Russian counterparts that Vladimir Romanov, who is suspected of squandering high value bank Ukio Bankas' property, cannot be extradited to Lithuania. Based on calculations carried out by financial institution of Dutch origin ING Group, restrictions imposed by Russia on 7 August on food products imported from the European Union may cost the EU USD 6.7 billion (EUR 5.0 billion) per year. Customs: Commission adopts strategy and action plan for better customs risk management2014-08-22, 09:06A new strategy to improve customs risk management, together with a detailed action plan, was adopted by the Commission. Robust customs risk management is essential to protect the safety and security of the EU and its citizens, the interests of legitimate traders and EU financial interests, while at the same time enabling the smooth flow of trade. As the volume of trade grows and the international supply chain becomes ever more complex and fast-moving, the framework for customs risk management needs to be adapted and developed accordingly. The new strategy seeks to ensure that customs is more coherent, efficient and cost effective in identifying and supervising supply chain risks, in a way that reflects today's realities. The action plan sets out specific measures to achieve this, together with the actors responsible and clear deadlines for doing so. The events marking the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way have commenced. Please find the detailed programme on the special website http://baltijoskelias.lrs.lt/. The Government of Lithuania approved the action plan for 2014-2015 which was prepared by the Ministry of Economy. The action plan is aimed to diversify Lithuania's export and reduce Lithuanian companies' losses due to sanctions imposed by the Russian Government.
