The situation in our region calls for the unity and commitment of all Baltic people and governments. The Baltic States are facing pressure, provocations and information attacks. A united and resolute response to these challenges is needed by bolstering the military, energy and information security in close cooperation with the EU and NATO partners.
Latvia is preparing to take over the EU Council Presidency from the beginning of the next year. The Eastern Partnership Summit scheduled for next May in Riga will be one of the most important events of the Latvian Presidency. It is essential to show at the summit that the European Union will continue to support its Eastern partners. Lithuania is ready to share the experience gained during its Presidency of the EU Council, including in organizing the Eastern Partnership Summit.
The President and the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament exchanged views on the activities of the NATO Strategic Communications Center of Excellence in Riga.
Among the other topics of discussion were bilateral relations between Lithuania and Latvia and the implementation of common projects. The strengthening of the energy sector was also discussed at the meeting.
