Mr Schetyna and Mr Tomaševski reviewed the current challenges, problems, and needs of Poles in Lithuania. They also discussed the prospect of the development of the Polish community in Lithuania in the coming years. It was agreed that an important element of support from Poland is the engagement in educational activities and teaching of the Polish language.
Minister Schetyna congratulated the EAPL leader on the 20th anniversary of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania. In turn Mr Tomaševski thanked the Minister for the support from various institutions in Poland to the Polish community in Lithuania. Next year the support of the needs of the Polish minority in Lithuania will be expanded with new important elements. Minister Schetyna is well aware of the problems and details of lives of Poles in Kresy as he himselfs has Kresy roots too - his parents come from Lviv.
The meeting in Warsaw was further consultation of the Minister Schetyna with Polonia communities. The conclusions of the meetings will be used to prepare the final Government Programme of Cooperation with Polish Diaspora in 2015-2020 prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme is intended to define the objectives, directions and methods of implementation of tasks for the sake of the Polish Diaspora.
