At the Lithuanian - Turkish business forum, business people from both countries will have an opportunity to establish contacts and discuss prospects of cooperation. Turkey is an important economic partner of Lithuania. Lithuania maintains cooperation ties with this country in the areas of trade, investments, transport, and tourism. Over the recent four years, volumes of trade between Lithuania and Turkey have grown by 40 percent. Travelling together with the President to Turkey will also be representatives of the food industry, services, transport sector, biotechnologies, and laser manufacturing.
The Presidents will address global security issues, cooperation of the two countries within international organizations and bilateral relations. Lithuania and Turkey are both border NATO member states that today are facing serious challenges to peace and security. Our unity and coordinated action is needed to counter these challenges.
Among the other issues to be discussed at the meeting will be Turkey's progress in implementing major reforms as it seeks the EU membership. During the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Turkey-EU negotiations were opened on one of the chapters. Our country stands ready to share its experience of implementing reforms with Turkey.
