The leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (LLRA) MEP Valdemar Tomasevski says that Lithuanian politicians who voted for the introduction of the euro must assume political responsibility because now Lithuania, with its low standard of living, has to support Greece, where the standard of living is higher.

On July 22 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas met with Raimonds Bergmanis, the new Minister of Defence of Latvia, conducting a visit in Lithuania at his invitation. The Ministers discussed regional security, bilateral and trilateral Baltic cooperation, assistance to Ukraine, upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw and other points of security and defence.

Draft EU rules on sharing and protecting the Passenger Name Record (PNR) data of people flying to or from the EU, and its use by member states and Europol to fight terrorism and serious transnational crime, were approved by the Civil Liberties Committee on Wednesday. This data must only be used to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute these crimes, said MEPs, inserting safeguards to ensure "the lawfulness of any storage, analysis, transfer and use of PNR data".

On July 16th 2015, the Government of Lithuania approved the European Commission's decision together with the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund to start negotiations with Greece on financial assistance from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

July 14, at a meeting with the new Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania Claire Lawrence Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas underscored the significance of the United Kingdom as Lithuania's partner and ally.

The rescue package for Greece agreed at the 12-13 July Eurozone Summit on Greece was debated in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee on Thursday. Members gave their views on the deal struck by Greece and its creditors, the functioning of the Eurozone, the role played by the European Parliament and on Parliament's future involvement in monitoring the implementation of the agreement.
