Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite defends the recent decision to cut social payments for refugees, saying that it would step up their integration and would be fair with regard to Lithuanian citizens.

The Seimas hosted the Summit of the Nordic Council and the Baltic Assembly, which discussed the cooperation in the ending year, defined new tasks for the next two years, and identified the areas where more coordination between the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council was needed.

Transport and energy companies will have to ensure that the digital infrastructure that they use to deliver essential services, such as traffic control or electricity grid management, is robust enough to withstand cyber-attacks, under new rules provisionally agreed by internal market MEPs and the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers on Monday. Online marketplaces like eBay or Amazon, search engines and clouds will also be required to ensure that their infrastructure is secure.

On Monday, 7 December 2015, the Constitutional Hall in Building 1 of the Seimas will host the last event of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Baltic Assembly (BA), namely, the Annual Summit of the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council (NC). The event will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a seminar on Belarus and the Eastern Partnership after the presidential elections in Belarus. The seminar, starting at 2:30 p.m., will equally take place in the Constitution Hall of the Seimas.

At her meeting with the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during his working visit to Lithuania, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, stressed the importance of continuity of the EU Eastern Partnership and the need for further support to Ukraine.

Lithuania and other Central and Eastern European countries are against Brussels' new initiative to resettle an additional number of refugees from Turkey.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius received the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko who came on an official visit to Lithuania on Wednesday. During the meeting the Prime Minister expressed his strong support for Ukraine.

The meeting between the Speaker of the Seimas, Loreta Graužinienė, and the Slovenian Ambassador to Lithuania, Robert Krmelj, centred on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Slovenia. This year, the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Lithuania has been set up at the Slovenian National Assembly and, according to Ms Graužinienė, this will even more contribute to closer cooperation between the Parliaments of our countries.
