PoliticsExpert-level conference EU Global Strategy: Eastern Partners in European Security which was held in Vilnius on March 2-4 addressed the importance the development of cooperation with European Union partners had for European security while placing a particular emphasis on Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries. On Monday, March 7, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will travel to Brussels for a special European Council meeting to discuss how to stem migrant flows to Europe in cooperation with Turkey, preserve the functioning of the Schengen area and help EU countries confronted with the largest inflows of migrants. European leaders will meet with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in an effort to speed up the implementation of the EU-Turkey Action Plan agreed. As part of her official visit to Japan, Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. During the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas emphasised that Lithuania appreciated the Japanese support for our country's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The interlocutors also focused on the economic cooperation strengthened yearly between the two countries and discussed energy security issues. Also Parliament's inquiry committee into testing car emissions meets for the first time on Wednesday. President Dalia Grybauskaitė will be travelling to Slovenia on an official visit on February 29 – March 1. Ukrainian MPs will join MEPs in Brussels for a 3-day "Ukraine week" high-level conference on good parliamentary practice, law-making and representation on 29 February – 2 March. The 40-strong delegation from Ukraine's Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, will include its leadership. |
