PoliticsEuropean Council: focus on the future of the United Kingdom in the EU and the migration crisis2016-02-18, 11:51On Thursday, 18 February, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will travel to Brussels to attend a European Council meeting. Ahead of the United Kingdom's referendum on its membership of the EU, heads of state will seek agreement on Britain's proposed reforms of the Community that would help it stay in the EU. Leaders will also review the implementation of measures to manage the migration crisis. Amendments to the Law on Family Allowances were registered by the faction of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (EAPL) last week in the secretariat of the Lithuanian Seimas. This document is a result of a pro-family policy pursued by EAPL. On February 15 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas discussed Lithuania's and Ukraine's defence cooperation with Ambassador of Ukraine in Lithuania HE Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi at a meeting at the Ministry of National Defence. President Dalia Grybauskaitė, currently attending the Munich Security Conference, held bilateral meetings with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Georgia's new Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The European Parliament will welcome national MPs from across Europe on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 February for joint debates with MEPs on the European Semester Cycles 2015/2016 (Tuesday) and on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union (Wednesday). Both events are being held as part of the 2016 edition of the European Parliamentary Week (#EPW16). At its meeting on 10 February 2016, the Committee on European Affairs of the Seimas discussed the "green card" on corporate social responsibility (CSR) proposed by the National Assembly of France. On 9 February in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius acquainted Ambassadors of the EU member states with Lithuania's stance on important items on the EU's domestic and foreign agendas.
