“I appreciate your attention to the security in our region prior to taking and endorsing critical decisions at the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw to the end of making the Alliance stronger. I am certain that demonstration of transatlantic unity and our strong resolve to defend is the key deterrent we can rely on. We seek to have a decision approved at the NATO Summit to deploy a battalion-sized allied forces in each of the Baltic States and Poland,” Minister J.Olekas said at the meeting.
Minister J.Olekas also informed the guest delegation about the steps of strengthening Lithuania’s defence, readiness to render full Host Nation Support, and the assistance rendered to Ukraine.
While addressing the migration crisis Minister J.Olekas underscored the need to strengthen border guard of the exterior EU borderline. As an EU member, Lithuania took its share of migrant quotas and sent policemen to southern Europe to help manage the migrant flow. “We are prepared for further discussion on EU measures needed to solve these issues,” Minister J.Olekas said.
On May 10 the delegation will pay a visit to the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai and meet with Portuguese airmen conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic States.
