“Liquefied natural gas terminal has guaranteed energy security for Lithuania and the other Baltic countries. The largest project of Norway-Lithuania economic cooperation, Klaipėdos Nafta and Höegh LNG terminal, has been operating reliably since its launch”, said Prime Minister Butkevičius. He added that Lithuania highly appreciates partnership between the two companies and trusts that the close cooperation will continue into the future. According to the Prime Minister, terminal’s regional importance will grow further with the connection of the Baltic gas pipelines to Poland and Finland.
Morten Høegh has pointed out that the company is proud of its cooperation with Lithuania and the joint success story.
The Prime Minister has emphasized that Klaipėdos Nafta has been pursuing a project of an LNG on-shore distribution station in Klaipėda Seaport. The Prime Minister said that the Lithuanian Government welcomes the idea to further develop small-scale LNG services: on/off-shore gas reloading and distribution.
The Prime Minister has also invited Höegh LNG to take part in the projects run by the LNG business and science cluster at Klaipėda University.
The Prime Minister has discussed energy cooperation with Executive Vice President of Statoil Jens Økland as well.
“Lithuania appreciates partnership with Statoil, with a view to ensuring diversification and security of gas supply sources. This year Lithuania will import more than half of its gas needs via the Klaipėda terminal”, said the Lithuanian Head of Government.
“Our business is based on long-term cooperation principles”, said the Vice President of Statoil. “You have developed the LNG idea and achieved excellent results”.
Prime Minister Butkevičius has highlighted the successful partnership with Statoil by pointing out at the fact that a renewed supply agreement was signed by LITGAS (a gas trader owned by Lietuvos Energija) and Statoil in February this year. The amended agreement will help reduce Klaipėda terminal maintenance costs by more than a third, cutting the energy price for consumers at the same time.
Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Klaipėdos Nafta Mantas Bartuška and CEO of Lietuvos Energija have also attended the meetings.
