Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius, opened the international conference “Safety of Journalists – New Challenges and Responses” in Vilnius on 3 July 2017 where the current situation of the safety of journalists in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) region, the most urgent challenges in journalists’ activities and possible international responses were discussed.

Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite has signed the parliament-approved bill on lobbyist operations into law.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is to visit Estonia on July 30, and during his visit he is to meet with Estonian prime minister and the presidents of Baltic countries, the White House said on Thursday.

On June 29 Defence Ministers of the enhanced Forward Presence host and framework nations signed a common declaration on the on the implementation of NATO enhanced Forward Presence at a meeting in Brussels.

On 28 June 2017 in Washington DC, Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, together with the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Nordic and Baltic countries, met with Paul Ryan, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. The delegation also participated in a discussion at the US Congress co-organised by the embassies of the Nordic and Baltic countries and Center for Transatlantic Relations under John Hopkins University.

By 90 votes in favour, none against and 3 abstentions, the Seimas adopted a resolution on enhancing the strategic dialogue between Lithuania and Poland.

On 26 June, the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania was officially opened in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. It is headed by the lawyer and entrepreneur Raúlis Neptalí Jaramillo Andrade.

The Seimas called on the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia, and the Sejm of the Republic of Poland to take decisions preventing the entry of electricity supplied by the developers of unsafe nuclear power plants into the electricity systems of Poland and the Baltic States. A resolution to that effect was adopted at the Seimas by 74 votes in favour to none against and no abstentions.

Some 2.5 million people applied for asylum in the EU in 2015 and 2016 alone. Last year more than 360,000 people arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean and so far this year 1,990 people have already drowned or are missing in the Mediterranean. The Parliament hosted a conference in Brussels on 21 June to discuss how migration could be managed more successfully. Opening the conference, Parliament President Antonio Tajani spoke of how “shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, corpses in the desert and abandoned children have become all too familiar images”.
