PoliticsPresident Dalia Grybauskaitė leaves for Tallinn to attend the EU summit on Friday, September 29. The President will also meet with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to discuss EU energy security and Lithuania’s needs in light with the upcoming negotiations on the Multiannual budget of the EU. On the eve of the summit in Tallinn, the President will attend the informal meeting of the EU leaders on the future of the EU. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis met Marek Kuchciński, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Lithuania's Justice Minister Milda Vainiute and Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius intend to stay in the government, while Economy Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius is resigning. A week rich in financial news with a vote on the EU’s 2018 budget, the visit of ECB President Mario Draghi and a hearing on tax avoidance in European football. “We thank and we appreciate very much the contribution made by the countries that form the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania. NATO presence and strengthening of deterrence remain relevant themes for our region,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said at a meeting with permanent representatives (ambassadors) to NATO of the countries contributing troops to the NATO eFP Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania. The delegation conducted a visit in Lithuania on September 21-22 for an update on the work done in the Battle Group deployed in Rukla. Transport ministers of the European Union meeting in Tallinn on September 20th focused on ways to ensure better flight connections in the European periphery. In New York, President Dalia Grybauskaitė conferred state decorations on high-ranking Pentagon officials for their noteworthy contribution to enhancing Lithuania‘s security and defense. The state decorations were presented to David Bradley Millner, Country Director, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania at Office of the Secretary of Defense, Department of Defence of the United States, and James Joye Townsend Jr., former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy. On 21-22 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will be paying a visit to Washington, D.C.
