Dec. 8-10th, 2021, the JURIX conference on Legal Knowledge and Information Systems will be hosted in Vilnius, Lithuania. Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) has been chosen as a local organiser of JURIX 2021. Call for papers will be issued in July. Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the Conference will promote physical participation and networking, but will also provide hybrid participation opportunities.

Migration has been a pressing issue in Europe for several years now, and recently it has posed new challenges. The surge of migrants on the border of Lithuania and Belarus, the increase in refugees trying to reach Europe from north Africa and various incidents related to illegal attempts to cross borders, are calling for new insights on the issue.

For the second year in a row, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) invited teams from secondary schools from across Lithuania to participate in the Design. Engineer. Construct! Lithuania project. Over 60 participants from four schools responded to the challenge to create a Music House in Kaunas.

Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will offer tuition waivers for Belarus students who want to study, but were unable to do so due to the unstable political situation. Those students who are unable to leave Belarus to come to Vilnius, will be able to study online remotely. This is an opportunity for students from Belarus to obtain a quality higher education.

It is always fascinating to see that people enjoy showing the foreigners new places and seeing our reaction“, says Malak Bakkour from Danniyeh in Lebanon, who has just graduated from KTU MSc Mechatronics. At the moment, the young professional is looking for a job in Lithuania and waiting for her internship in the UK.

We are completing another challenging academic year that required us to concentrate and have patience, ingenuity, and motivation. The more I think about it, the more I realize that it was the crisis that brutally threw us out of the routine into an unusual environment that emphasized both the meaning of university studies and the importance of science in social and state life. Never before have the scientists been so appreciated, although, of course, one would always want more science-based decisions or public opinions.

At the end of the next year, the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) M-Lab Prototyping Laboratory Centre will open its doors for researchers and students. To commemorate the official beginning of the construction, a capsule containing a letter to future generations was buried in the foundation of the building on Monday, June 28, 2021.

As from 29 June, the Vilnius University Museum once again welcomes guests and residents of the Lithuanian capital at VU’s prominent architectural ensemble in Vilnius Old Town. Researchers of the university’s ensemble will also be able to go up the St. John’s Church bell tower – the highest building of Vilnius Old Town (68 m).

Two new Boeing 737 MAX airplanes crashed with the loss of 346 lives because Boeing did not install a pair of redundant Angle-of-Attack (AoA) sensors in addition to the original two AoA sensors that are on both sides of the 737 MAX nose. This assertion has been presented on June 22 at DSN 2021, the 51st Annual IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks that is being held virtually from Taipei, Taiwan on June 21-24, 2021.
