University is a place of universal learning – from new ideas to solving relevant societal problems. A joint European university, ECIU University brings together students from different countries to solve regional and global challenges.

The Partnership Institute of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), which will focus on developing gene editing technologies, will soon start operating at the Life Sciences Centre of Vilnius University (VU LSC). This unique institute was established through the implementation of a partnership agreement. It will adopt the best practices of a research organisation, which have been applied for many years at the world’s largest laboratory of molecular biology. The selection of the principal researchers was carried out through an open international competition following the same procedures and standards as the EMBL.

On May 20-21, the second online conference Sustainable Bioeconomy Development 2021: Adaptation to Climate Change took place in Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). The event was organised by the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development of VMU Agriculture Academy in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Social Development of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. The plenary and panel discussions and seminars welcomed the experts of social sciences from Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, and Slovakia.

Since 2016, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) in cooperation with UAB “Intermedix Lietuva” has established seven one-time scholarships of 200 EUR which are awarded for the final-year students of the 1st and 2nd cycle of the full-time study form or integrated studies.

May 25th, 2021, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Inga Žalėniene met with members of the Seimas Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the Republic of Korea Group. Director of the Vilnius King Sejong Institute (KSI) Prof. Lora Tamošiūniene also took part in the meeting.

May 31st, 15:00 hrs., the national scientific conference, "Opportunities to Promote Environmentally Friendly Behavior: Insights for Policy-makers, Practitioners and Researchers" will take place online remotely.

May 10th, 2021, the Faculty of Human and Social Studies's Communication Institute organised a discussion, "The Pandemic and Communication." Institute Assoc. Prof. Virgis Valentinavičius, the moderator, said that the word pandemic is used almost as frequently as communication.

Although the Eiguliai neighbourhood in Kaunas was first mentioned in the 14th century, this area is more commonly associated with grey tenement houses and other Soviet buildings built here 40 years ago. At that time, the district was designed as a utopia reflecting Soviet-era ideas, but to what extent do they meet the needs of today’s population? How should the neighbourhood change to become more comfortable for its residents?
