A plenary meeting of the Science – Future of Lithuania Conference has opened a session of thematic conferences for young scientists to be held in all the faculties and departments of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU).

Researchers, businesses and innovators from Ukraine will now be able to fully participate in Horizon 2020, the European Union's research and innovation funding programme, on equal terms with EU Member States and other associated countries. This is thanks to the Agreement for the Association of Ukraine to Horizon 2020, signed today in Kyiv by Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, and Serhiy Kvit, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Imagine having a serious car accident and not being able to call the emergency services. Soon your car might do it for you. The Parliament's internal market committee approved today the deployment of the eCall automatic alert system for cars. After the vote, we spoke to Czech S&D member Olga Sehnalová, who wrote the report, about the need for eCall, how data will be protected and what it will cost consumers. MEPs will vote on her recommendations during the plenary session at the end of April.

All new car models sold in the EU are to be equipped with eCall technology from 31 March 2018 under draft EU rules endorsed by Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee MEPs on Tuesday.This technology uses the 112 emergency number to call rescue services automatically, enabling them to reach crash scenes faster and thus save lives and reduce the severity of injuries.

Lithuania has the best business conditions globally for Business Process Outsourcing according to a newly published index. The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Shared Service Location Index is published by Cushman & Wakefield, the world's largest privately held real estate agency. And in this year's index, Lithuania, a new entrant, was rated first in the world in the business conditions category, and took 11th place in the overall index, making it the highest ranked new entrant.

During her visit at KTU School of Economics and Business, 'Bloomberg' representative for the Baltic region Karina Collis stated that she has no doubt that the Finance and Markets' laboratory, which is being established together with KTU, provides scientific advantage not only for the students but for the whole university as well.
