EducationThe students of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) in Lithuania have built a mini replica of the famous Eiffel Tower. Lithuania does not provide equal access to non-formal education for all school-children, the current funding mechanism does not encourage its development, and the quality of non-formal education is not sufficiently ensured. These shortcomings were revealed during an audit conducted by the National Audit Office to assess organisation of non-formal education of school-children in the country over the period 2011-2013. Delegation of Barclays visited Vilnius University recently. VU management and the guests discussed possibilities of further cooperation, reviewed the IT market trends in Lithuania. Plzeň in the Czech Republic and Mons in Belgium are Europe's cultural capitals for 2015. Inaugurated in 1985, cultural capitals highlight the diversity and richness of European culture, while also fostering a European identity. More than 50 cities around Europe have already had the honour and since 2011 two cities from two different EU countries share the title each year. MEPs debated the latest plan to make €1 billion in Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) funding available in 2015 with Commissioner Marianne Thyssen on Tuesday morning. A majority of speakers backed the idea of speeding up the delivery of funding for projects to fight youth unemployment, while also developing long-term solutions and introducing structural reforms. The usage of information technologies is rapidly evolving into the construction sector in Lithuania: Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and International Corporation, "Bentley Systems" has signed a contract on founding "BIM (Building Information Modelling) Academy". VGTU will coordinate the activities of the Academy in the Baltic region. |
