Education29 April Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) welcomed guests from Shanghai Conservatory of Music in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (SHMMF). The head of Audiovisual Art Department Vytautas Kederys met with Vice President of Shanghai Conservatory of Music Prof. ZHANG Xianping, director of Music Research Institute Prof. WANG Rui and director of International Exchange Office Ms. CHEN Xiaoyi. During their talk, possibilities of exchange and collaboration between KTU and Shanghai Conservatory of Music were discussed. Vice President of Shanghai Conservatory of Music Prof. ZHANG Xianping gladly answered a couple of questions. This academic year 9 degree studies students from Georgia are studying at VDU. One of them is Revaz Janshia. This active and interesting young man has visited Lithuania earlier – he studied at VMU as a bilateral exchange student. After spending a few months in Lithuania and getting to know the country, Revaz decided to come back here for a longer period of time. The young man's willingness to become a student of VMU was also encouraged by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, which provided a scholarship for Master studies. NanoAvionics, JSC, the key founder of which is the team of Vilnius University – the one which successfully launched the first Lithuanian satellite "LituanicaSAT-1" last year, is the first Lithuanian space technologies start-up and one of the first space start-ups in Eastern Europe to receive a venture capital investment. A 200,000 EUR seed investment was provided by Practica Seed Capital and Practica Venture Capital funds, managed by Practica Capital. Italian musicologist and semiotician, professor Dario Martinelli says that the most beautiful view in Lithuania is at the confluence of the Nemunas and the Neris at Kaunas Santaka park. In April Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture hosted a group of students from Leeds Beckett University, UK. The students' visit was a part of a study project involving improvement plans for Kaunas green zones, waterfront and historical sites. The European Union officially kick-started its programme of activities at the EXPO 2015 Universal Exhibition in Milan. Centred on the theme of global food and nutrition challenges, EXPO is an opportunity for the EU to showcase its work in different food related areas and help raise awareness of this important global issue. To ensure a lasting legacy, the main focus will be put on the role of science with dedicated events and a set of recommendations to be unveiled on 15 October, the day before World Food Day. The central role of science will also be reflected in the EU pavilion, the EU's main exhibition space at EXPO. The Honorary Doctorate Degree of VGTU — to the outstanding engineering Professor H. Adeli2015-05-08, 14:09During the festive meeting of the Senate of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), Hojjat Adeli, the outstanding researcher, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science in the Ohio State University (USA), received regalia of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Magazine "Reitingai"("Rankings") introduced institutional ranking of Lithuanian universities. Rankings of 2015 demonstrated that VU is the best Lithuanian university again among the state universities. VU received 74.3 points out of 100 possible. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) stays in the second place with 57.3 points, while Vytautas Magnus University remains the third with 52.2 points (state university ranking). Although millions of euro is being invested to establish science and business valleys in Lithuania, both businesspeople and Lithuania's top politicians admit that cooperation between business and science is lacking. The delegation of students and teachers from Häme University of Applied Sciences in Finland visited Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) on April 13-17. The students, studying transport economy and management, learned about higher education system of Lithuania and studies at VGTU, as well as visited various transport companies. |
