EducationTurin School of Local Regulation has announced the official launch of the XVIII Edition of the International Summer School on regulation of local public services, which will take place on 7-18 September in Turin, Italy. Could creating a digital single market in the EU and removing barriers online help give a boost to European companies? The European Commission outlined its strategy on 6 May, while it will also feature on the agenda of the European Council on 25-26 June. Meanwhile the Parliament is planning to respond with an own-initiative report on the digital market. They debated the issue on 19 May, during which MEPs highlighted the challenges and potential benefits involved. There is a number of technologies on the market, cleaning up the air from solid particles, but none of them suited the company, producing biofuels: the air, heavily polluted by the solid particles and the high humidity level, reduced the effectiveness of the cleaning devices, not allowing them to achieve the desired results. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) researchers stretched a helping hand to the company – they offered their innovation – the multichannel cyclone. The team of the Department of Semiconductor Physics of the Vilnius University, headed by professor Juozas Vidmantis Vaitkus, following the framework of the AIDA project (4 year project within the EU FP7 Research Infrastructures programme) was to study the possibility to use a microwave absorption technique for radiation monitoring in the proton irradiation facility at CERN. The Vilnius University team produced a cost effective, flexible and easy to handle fluence monitoring system. The system is based on the measurement of the radiation induced decrease of the charge carrier lifetime in pure silicon wafer pieces. A prototype apparatus was built in Vilnius and tested at CERN. Call for applications has been announced for scholarships for the Ukrainian Summer School "Viadrinicum", Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies: Politics, Civil Society, and the Arts, which will take place from 24 August until 6 September in Frankfurt (Oder). Guest lecturer – Professor Felix Ekardt – an expert in Public Law, Legal Philosophy and Climate Policy will give a lecture on „Climate Change as a Social and Economic Problem" on Wednesday, 20th May 2015, 16.00 at Vilnius University, Faculty of Economics Room 707, Saulėtekio ave. 9, Vilnius. Working language of the lecture: English, participation: free. Professor will deal with European sustainability policy, discuss measures to combat climate change and avert severe consequences for the society and economy. |
