EducationThis week the VMU Dept. of Political Science will be organizing several events dedicated to politics and international relations. Following the world university ranking 2015/2016, published by "QS World University Rankings", VU improved its position to 501-550 from the 551-600 position previously. 14–18 September KTU's Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture is inviting all its students and the rest of the University's community to the festival "Statybininkų dienos'15". The festival's programme is packed with seminars, workshops, excursions and sports competitions. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) in Cambridge, United Kingdom has signed a cooperation agreement: until 2022 KTU will prepare 5 doctors of science for the Centre. KTU is one of 11 academic partners of NSIRC; among them are Brunel, Loughborough, Leicester, Manchester, Coventry, Southampton, Strathclyde and Birmingham universities. Recently, the MBA degree has come under intense criticism. There are those who question its very existence and assert that MBA programs are unable to supply employers with the skilled and knowledgeable recruits they need. Others blame the shareholder perspective of MBA programs for the financial crises, or view MBA programs as complicit to the financial crises. Finally, there are calls for a major retooling of the contents of MBA programs to meet the requirements of the rapidly changing business environment. Inventions of VGTU students and researchers at the Fair of Vilnius Innovation Forum2015-09-11, 17:38On September 3rd – 4th, the Innovation Fair took place at the conference centre Litexpo in Vilnius. The researchers, students, and graduates of Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) attended the exhibition and introduced their inventions together with more than 30 companies and start-ups. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) meets the new academic year as an international university – since September students from 47 different countries will start their studies and 50 teachers from non-European Union (EU) countries will deliver lectures. During the first fortnight of September 2015, young scientists were traditionally invited to the Lithuanian Presidential Palace to collect awards for the best dissertations of the year 2014. Five (5) winners - the best authors of their dissertations out of total top 8 turned to be representatives of our Alma Mater – Vilnius University. During the first week of September Sascha Schmeling, Charles Henri Denarau and Frederick Bordry, representatives of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) visited VU. Artūras Žukauskas, VU Rector discussed possibilities for further cooperation between CERN and VU, also considered the potential Lithuania's membership in one of the key scientific institutions of the world. This year Lithuania will devote particular attention to the studies of Ukrainian students. Striving to promote transnational nature of studies and attract gifted foreigners to study in Lithuania, the state will provide support for the master's programmes. This year 67 foreign master's students will receive support to study in Lithuania. Ukrainian students were allocated 40 places in Lithuania's higher education establishments. |
