The Parliament's economic committee held a hearing on Monday to discuss the issues involved with experts, who told them EU regulation should not go beyond preventing and fighting crime. Parliament is currently working on a report on virtual currencies, which the economic committee is expected to vote on in April. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) has become a member of European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), the network of innovation pioneers from 12 European countries and Mexico. KTU is the only Lithuanian university in the Consortium. „To harmonize the biological clock, we need to choose the right lighting", says Dr Pranciškus Vitta, the Head of Lighting and Electronics Systems of the VU Institute of Applied Sciences. According to him, the cold white light supports work capacity, while we should switch to a warm white floor lamp before the night. Besides, Dr Vitta considers that the cold white light will substitute the warm white light in the street and road lightening in future in order to increase the level of attentiveness. President Dalia Grybauskaitė visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) – the largest scientific institution in the world. Lithuania is submitting an official application to become an associate member of CERN; therefore, the President and Fabiola Gianotti, Director-General of CERN, discussed further steps to ensure membership in this prestigious scientific institution. On January 14th, BAA Training welcomed delegation from Georgian Aviation University (GAU) that travelled to Lithuania for a reciprocal meeting to finalize the partnership on aviation training. The inked contact will broaden Georgian Aviation University's training capabilities and set the course for the EASA certification. On 7 January the Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Cristina Gallach, and the CEO of ELS, Inc., Mark Harris, launched the 3rd annual Many Languages, One World essay contest. On January 18-19, guests from Austria are visiting Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). During their visit, the experts from the Austrian Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of studies (Austria-Akkreditierung und Qualitätssicherung – AQ Austria) will perform international accreditation of the joint study program of VGTU and Braunschweig University of Technology – Mechatronics. |
