VGTU Council has unanimously elected Alfonsas Daniūnas as the rector of VGTU for the second five-year term by a secret ballot.

The European Commission has registered a new European Citizens' Initiative called “More than Education” to modernise the existing education systems in the EU states. The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) is a reflection of “citizens’ democracy”: a registered ECI with 1 million signatures from seven EU states forces the Commission to take actions.

For the last six months Tomas Butkevičius, the second year marketing student at KTU’s School of Economics and Business has been going to lectures in… Indonesia. He had won the KTU Mobility scholarship for studying at BINUS University in Jakarta. The students of VGTU Environmental and Civil Engineering were awarded with Leonas Antanas Maskaliūnas nominal scholarships. L. A. Maskaliūnas is the patron of Vydūnas Youth Fund, founder and vice-president of "Lithuanian American cultural center", VGTU Honorary Member and highly regarded civil engineering professional. L. A. Maskaliūnas came to VGTU and handed scholarships to the students personally in a ceremony on June 2, 2016.

VMU Office of Student Affairs has opened the application for accommodation at VMU dormitory in academic year 2016/2017 for all incoming first year full-time, Erasmus+, Bilateral or other exchange students. These students are eligible to apply for a room in the VMU Dormitory No. 2 – “Baltija” (located at Vytauto pr. 71, Kaunas).
