This week the first results of the general admission to the Lithuanian schools of higher education were announced: Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology are among the leaders, taking up 31% and 17% of university study market. Moreover, 21% of state-funded paces were offered for prospective KTU students (35% of state funded students were invited to study at VU). Experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have recommended that Lithuania should continue with its structural reforms to achieve process, with a focus on fundamental restructuring of the education sector. For several decades nicknamed a student capital, Kaunas is much more than just a second largest Lithuanian city. Lush parks, lively squares, cozy cafes and buzzing cultural life are making Kaunas more and more attractive not only as a travel destination, but also as a place to live. Research shows that Refugee Image in Lithuanian, British and US Press Is Mainly Negative2017-07-24, 10:32Surge, wave, tsunami, flood – images related to water are the most common when talking about refugees in Lithuanian, UK and US media. Also, refugees are often associated with a disease – headache, fever or cancer, a heavy load or a weapon. Although British media uses the most neutral metaphors related to refugees, no positive images were detected in either of the countries’ media analysed. This week the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education has published the results of study programmes’ accreditation for 2010–2016. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is among the leaders in Lithuania by the number of programmes accredited for a maximum of 6 years’ period. The International Bureau of Education (IBE-UNESCO) launched the first postgraduate Certificate In Curriculum Design and Development for Central-East Europe Central Asia together with VMU in Lithuania on 28 November. This will be followed by UNESCO IBE’s first postgraduate Diploma for the Arab States in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 4 December. |
