EconomyAfter the start of harvesting in July 2017, about a fourth of the total area of grain crops and rape has been harvested in Lithuania so far. Statistics Lithuania informs that, according to the Labour Force Survey data, in II quarter 2017, the unemployment rate stood at 7% and, against I quarter 2017 and II quarter 2016, decreased by 1 percentage point. In II quarter 2017, the male unemployment rate stood at 8.6, female – at 5.4%. Statistics Lithuania informs that in II quarter 2017, the volume of construction works carried out in the country amounted to EUR 628.5 million at current prices and, against the previous period, seasonally and calendar adjusted, grew by 0.5% at constant prices (unadjusted – by 72.6%). Lithuania is increasingly lacking employees, which stalls rapid development of the country's economy, analysts say. In their words, long-term growth is out of the question, if the tendencies remain unchanged. State-run Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LG) generated 242 million euros in revenue in January through July 2017, up by 3.8% from the same period of 2016. Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports of goods in June 2017 amounted to EUR 2.27 billion, imports – EUR 2.34 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.32 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 72 million. Estonian international coach operator Lux Express in the first half of the year 2017 carried by 23% more passengers in the Baltic states than in the first six months of 2016, the company said. Lithuania's state-run energy holding Lietuvos Energija and electricity transmission system operator Litgrid are selling data communication and data center operator Duomenu Logistikos Centras (Data Logistics Center, or DLC) for an unspecified sum of money to telecommunications company Telia Lietuva. Nigerian citizens living in Lithuania laundered money via the state-run Lietuvos Pastas (Lithuanian Post), which sacked its CEO Lina Minderiene last Friday, the Financial Crimes Investigation Service (FNTT). Growing oil product flows from Belarusian factories caused an increase of revenue and loading volumes at Lithuania's oil product terminals operator Klaipedos Nafta (Klaipeda Oil) in July 2017.
