WorldThe European Union and Uzbekistan today held the ninth round of their annual Human Rights Dialogue in Tashkent, as part of the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Justice and Home Affairs, Human Rights and related issues. The Uzbek delegation was led by Mr Muzraf Ikramov, Minister for Justice, who was accompanied by Mr Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Centre for Human Rights, and other senior officials. The EU delegation was led by Mr Toivo Klaar, Head of Central Asia Division at the European External Action Service. On 24 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Slovenia's new Ambassador to Lithuania Robert Krmelj, who resides in Warsaw. The officials discussed bilateral cooperation, Europe's migration crisis and NATO's open door policy. Lithuania as well as other EU Member States have abstained in the vote on a draft resolution on Combating glorification of Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on 19 November. The resolution, which was submitted by the Russian Federation, was adopted, 126 countries voting in favour, 4 against and 53 abstaining. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed the repercussions of Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris with the foreign affairs committee on 16 November. "There are no obvious recipes for tackling terrorism," Steinmeier said, adding "Military action alone will not be sufficient in overcoming the problem." Meanwhile committee chair Elmar Brok, a German EPP member, warned against confusing migration and terrorism: "Refugees are the victims of terror, not part of the terror."
