The European Commission has fined Google €2.42 billion for breaching EU antitrust rules. Google has abused its market dominance as a search engine by giving an illegal advantage to another Google product, its comparison shopping service.

On 22 June in Astana, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko. They discussed political and economic cooperation, prospects for bilateral relations in the field of transport, as well as cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, who is visiting Lithuania, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations in Vilnius on 23 June.

Over the past 2 years, the EU and Lebanon deepened their partnership. In view of increasing challenges, notably due to the crisis in Syria, the EU stepped up its support to Lebanon, boosting socio-economic development, reinforcing cooperation on security, education, good governance, trade.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Federal Republic of Germany the Grand Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great. One of the highest state awards of Lithuania was bestowed upon the German Chancellor for her responsible European leadership and personal contribution in strengthening political, defense, economic, cultural, and public cooperation between the two states.

OTTAWA – The first meeting of the EU-Canada Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) took place today in Ottawa. The Joint Cooperation Committee, along with the Joint Ministerial Committee, have been established by the EU-Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement and will provide impetus to our relationship, as well as assess implementation of the Agreement, which is being provisionally applied since 1 April 2017. The first EU-Canada Joint Ministerial Committee is due to take place in Brussels later this year.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the meeting of the leaders of Baltic, Nordic and Benelux countries in The Hague. The issues of importance for the future of the entire EU ‒ security and defense, Brexit, relations with EU’s external neighbors, strengthening of the Eurozone, Community’s economic and social policy as well as response to the globalization and migration challenges ‒ were discussed at the meeting.

On 15-16 of June, two Lithuanian consulates in Kristianstad and Stavanger were opened in Norway. Two newly appointed honorary consuls commenced their work in the consulates.
