In view of increasing challenges, notably due to the crisis in Syria, the EU stepped up its support to Lebanon, boosting socio-economic development, reinforcing cooperation on security, education, good governance, trade. President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Federal Republic of Germany the Grand Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great. One of the highest state awards of Lithuania was bestowed upon the German Chancellor for her responsible European leadership and personal contribution in strengthening political, defense, economic, cultural, and public cooperation between the two states. OTTAWA – The first meeting of the EU-Canada Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) took place today in Ottawa. The Joint Cooperation Committee, along with the Joint Ministerial Committee, have been established by the EU-Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement and will provide impetus to our relationship, as well as assess implementation of the Agreement, which is being provisionally applied since 1 April 2017. The first EU-Canada Joint Ministerial Committee is due to take place in Brussels later this year. President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the meeting of the leaders of Baltic, Nordic and Benelux countries in The Hague. The issues of importance for the future of the entire EU ‒ security and defense, Brexit, relations with EU’s external neighbors, strengthening of the Eurozone, Community’s economic and social policy as well as response to the globalization and migration challenges ‒ were discussed at the meeting. A Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) between the European Union and Singapore took place at the European External Action Service in Brussels on 20 June 2017. On 15-16 of June, two Lithuanian consulates in Kristianstad and Stavanger were opened in Norway. Two newly appointed honorary consuls commenced their work in the consulates. The European Commission has responded swiftly to Portugal's request for assistance in order to tackle the deadly forest fires. |
