Tajani welcomed Serbia's steady progress towards EU membership and urged further reforms in the country, pointing out the need to strengthen the rule of law and to attract more foreign direct investment. “Efforts to reform at all levels are, first and foremost, for the benefit of Serbia’s citizens,” he said.
The Parliament President said he would organise a visit to Serbia with companies and investors in January 2018 to boost economic ties. “The success of the Western Balkans is very important for the European Parliament,” he said, adding: “The future will be one of enlargement."
Brnabić, who became Serbia’s prime minister in June 2017, pointed out the country’s economic reforms and described the government’s ambitions to improve education, public administration and the judiciary. “Serbia remains committed to European integration and regional stability,” she said. She also talked about the work of Serbia’s police and military forces in stopping illegal migrants: “We have been a credible and strong partner to the EU in protecting borders and border control."
