On 30-31 August, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas participated in an informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers (Gynmich) in Vienna, the capital of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting focused on transatlantic relations, the Middle East, the Western Balkans, and multilateral policy issues.

The European Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Georgia for Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) of up to €45 million to help Georgia cover part of its external financing needs and support economic reforms.

On 27 August, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas received the new Ambassador of Cuba to Lithuania Eduardo Lazo Pérez, who resides in Helsinki. On the same day, the Ambassador of Cuba presented letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

In light of the difficulties faced by European farmers affected by drought this summer, the European Commission continues acting to provide practical support to the sector. Additional flexibility will be granted to help farmers provide sufficient feed to their animals.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. At the meeting, tensions arising in the global space, relations between the European Union and Turkey as well as bilateral cooperation were on the agenda.

On 28 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Czech Ambassador to Lithuania Bohumil Mazánek.

On 27 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the new Ambassador of India to Lithuania Tsewang Namgyal, who resides in Warsaw.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended condolences on the passing of U.S. Senator and dear friend of Lithuania John McCain and wished strength and fortitude to the Senator’s family, his loved ones, colleagues, friends and associates.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is on a visit to Lithuania. Relations between Israel and the European Union, Middle East peace process, global enhancement of peace and stability, and situation in Syria and Iran were discussed at the meeting.
