On May 31 the Lithuanian Armed Forces received the Bolide-type missiles for its RBS-70 short-range man-portable missile air defence system to improve air defence efficiency.

The head of the Lithuanian delegation, Deputy Minister of Energy Albinas Zananavičius, who participated in the ministerial-level nuclear security conference "Shaping the Future" in Vienna, Austria, emphasized the importance of nuclear security in a changing world. "The international nuclear security situation has deteriorated dramatically in recent years. Russia's unprovoked aggressive war against Ukraine poses an unprecedented threat to nuclear security with potentially enormous consequences for the entire world. In such a situation, we cannot be certain that nuclear materials will not fall into the wrong hands and be used for malicious purposes. We therefore call on Russia to immediately stop its illegal invasion and withdraw from the seized Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the entire territory of Ukraine," said the Deputy Minister while addressing conference participants. He also called on the entire international community to maintain due vigilance and implement appropriate control measures.

On May 13–19 fighter aircraft of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment were scrambled once to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation violating flight rules in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Lithuanian Minister of the Economy and Innovation, has officially signed the U.S. State Department-initiated Artemis Accords that establish practical principles for the safe and sustainable exploration of space, making Lithuania its 40th signatory.

Vilnius is trying to recruit new police officers - a one-off benefit of €10,000 for new police officers was approved in February. Applications for the benefit have already been submitted by 18 officers newly recruited to the structural units of the Vilnius Regional Police Headquarters. It is planned that about 50 more trainees will be employed by the end of July, reports Vilnius Local Government.

The ongoing reconstruction of Vilnius Airport's traffic scheme, which is directly linked to the new departures terminal opening at the beginning of next year, is already leading to important changes at the capital's gateways. The most important change is the permanent closure of the airport's iconic ramp to the existing departures terminal, which will be closed to cars from 29th of April.

A disinformation literacy exam - a collaboration between the Office of the Government and Debunk.org - debuted today in Lithuania, with participation of nearly 2000 students from 33 cities and towns. Results will be tallied over the coming week, and the winning class will be honoured at the Office of the Government.

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation invites public authorities, research institutions and businesses to participate in the national selection for the European Entrepreneurship Promotion Awards 2024. The competition is organised by the European Commission and the national selection is managed by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation.

At the EU Environment Council in Brussels on Monday, Lithuania, supported by the Czech Republic, Latvia, and Estonia, proposed that EU Member States ban imports of ferrous metals, copper, and aluminum waste and scrap from Russia, as Russia is using the money to finance its war against Ukraine.
