On Friday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who is visiting Lithuania. The Head of State and the President of the European Parliament discussed the course of Russia’s war in Ukraine, support for Ukraine, historical memory, the upcoming new EU political cycle and the European Parliament elections.

The new rules would make it easier for persons with disabilities to travel in the EU by ensuring access to special conditions, including parking, in all member states.

Foresters from the State Forest Enterprise are offering guidance on how to handle trees that are still green or have withered after the holidays.

Starting now, residents will find it easier to dispose of their waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) at no cost by contacting representatives of WEEE collection companies who will come to their homes. Manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment are now obligated to inform purchasers about the availability of a free waste removal service. This information, including a designated telephone number for the service, must be provided at the point of sale and during collection.

The Lithuanian Airports serviced more than 6 million passengers within the year 2023, i.e. even 12 percent more than in the year 2022. It is recorded that the number of flights also increased in 2023: it was 4.5 percent higher than in the previous year and exceeded 53 thousand.

In the final days of 2023 the Lithuanian Armed Forces received 120 mm Expal120-MX2-SM towed mortars of Spain’s EXPAL Systems, S.A. The advanced superior quality equipment will enhance indirect fire capabilities in the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

The Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania and the Ministry of Defence of the Netherlands have signed a cooperation agreement regarding acquisition of the Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact (GM200 MM/C) radars from the Dutch manufacturer, Thales Nederland, thus further building on the defence cooperation between the two countries.

Lithuanian Airports reminds that from January 2024, the redevelopment of a part of the parking lots in front of Vilnius Airport will start. The main change for passengers arriving by car during this stage is that the short-term parking zone called P2 will be closed for construction work.

The Seimas approved the mandate for Lithuania’s participation multinational operations in 2024-2025 for 318 civilian and military personnel of the National Defence System at one time. The decision indicates 13 multinational operations, the previous mandate included twelve of them.
