Travel at Vilnius and Kaunas airports is becoming even simpler and faster: for some time now, passengers have not been required to remove electronic devices from their hand luggage during aviation security checks, and starting from 22 August (Friday), they will no longer need to remove liquids either.

During the visit of Acting Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis to Japan, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Museum of Lithuania and the Nagoya City Museum. This event marks a new stage in strengthening the partnership between Lithuania and Japan in the field of culture.

This summer, a record number of young expatriates came to Lithuania for internships: 28 students of Lithuanian descent from the US and Canada. For five weeks, they participated in the Lithuanian Expatriate Student Internship (LESI) programme, which is run by the Lithuanian community in the US and supported by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation (EIMIN) in activities relevant to the Lithuanian economy.

On August 11–17 the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment in the Baltic states was scrambled to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation approaching through international airspace in violation of the international flight regulations twice.

At the meeting, the Government approved the draft resolution prepared by the Ministry of Finance, which proposes to allocate an additional EUR 461 million from borrowed funds for the priority development of defence capabilities this year. These funds would be channelled to the Ministry of National Defence (MoND) for the advance payment for the German Leopard 2 tanks.

Vice Ministers of National Defence of Lithuania Tomas Godliauskas and Orijana Mašalė with Vice Minister of National Defence of Poland Cezary Tomczyk discussed strategic military mobility projects aimed to improve force movement in the region and strengthen defence of NATO’s intern flank at a meeting in Vilnius. They also discussed the East Shield and Baltic Defence Line, unified NATO fuel reserve system and infrastructure development, including Rūdninkai Campus, the largest infrastructure project for the military Lithuania has ever undertaken.

On 9 July in Rome, on the eve of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) and the European nuclear energy company Newcleo signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which envisages close cooperation in the analysis of the feasibility of the advanced fast reactor technology in Lithuania. This technology could be an important step towards the introduction of reliable and efficient energy solutions and the safe and sustainable management of spent nuclear fuel in the country.

On July 7–13 NATO Air Policing Detachment in the Baltic states was four times alerted to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation violating international aviation regulations in international airspace over the Baltic Sea and once –to respond to a violation of the airspace of Lithuania.
