On September 16–22 fighter aircraft of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment were scrambled five times to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation violating flight rules in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

Icelandic low-cost airline PLAY airlines announces that from 15 May 2025 it will operate flights between Vilnius Airport and Reykjavik (Iceland) twice a week - on Thursdays and Sundays. Currently, this regular route is operated once a week on Saturdays.

The Lithuanian Government has approved the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation's proposal to grant the German military industry leader Rheinmetall the status of a project that meets the urgent security and defence needs of the country. This allows the company’s Lithuanian Centre of Excellence for Ammunition to benefit from special investment and commercial conditions related to the fast-track set-up of the plant.

The Council of the European Union approved the new Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Regulation. The regulations, based on Lithuania’s proposal, provides for the development of a new European gauge railway line to Klaipėda. The revised TEN-T Regulation also includes a new transport corridor connecting the Baltic, Black and Aegean Seas and additional links with Ukraine.

The updated National Energy Independence Strategy was adopted by the Seimas today. The document aims to make Lithuania a fully energy independent country by 2050 that produces energy for its own needs and exports it.
