SocietySome 3,000 workers made redundant in Belgium, Germany and Poland in 2013-2014 should receive EU aid worth €6.3million to help them find jobs, the Budgets Committee recommended on Thursday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid still has to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers. A new draft text on an EU system for the use of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data, tabled by lead MEP Timothy Kirkhope (ECR, UK), was discussed in the civil liberties committee on Thursday morning. On 26 February 2015, Lithuanian Post (Lietuvos pastas) opened Logistics Centre in Ramuciu village, Kaunas district. The route from Lithuania's capital Vilnius to Trakai, the country's picturesque historic centre, is already dotted with high-tech production units that have sprung up along the road. The European Region Airlines Association (ERA) is delighted to welcome Air Lituanica, a Lithuanian carrier, as a new member. Based in Vilnius, Lithuania, Air Lituanica is the latest airline member to join ERA and brings the number of airlines in membership of the association to 53. In January 2015, a total of 257,000 incoming and outgoing passengers used Lithuanian airports, or by 16.5% more than in January 2014. On Thursday, 19 February 2015, budget airline Ryanair congratulated its 2 millionth passenger in Vilnius International Airport. On the 20th of February, the airline Air Lituanica welcomes its 200 thousandth passenger. Over 60% of Air Lituanica passengers are foreigners, while a half of all passengers travel for business purposes. |
