'We are here to emphasize our position on discrimination of Poles in Lithuania. It is not our first protest, but today we are mostly worried about the fate of Polish education in this country. Polish schools are very important for the survival of the Polish minority in Lithuania. Polish society survived in Lithuania thanks to Polish schools. Polish schools survived even during Soviet times and now they are being regularly and systematically ruined,' - said Aleksander Szycht, the main organizer of the picket, President of the Association 'Memoriae Fidelis'.
Adam Chajewski, Vice President of the Federation of Kresy Organizations, friend of Poles in Kresy, including Lithuania, was the co-organizer of the protest.
The picket was attended by the representatives of Kresy organizations and Varsovians who expressed their solidarity with the Poles in Lithuania. They showed their protest against the discriminatory educational reform carried out by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science. The aim of the picket was also to raise the awareness of Poles on the situation of Poles from former Kresy, which is especially difficult in Lithuania.
'Glory of Poles in Lithuania - they defend their stronghold despite exhortations that resistance is pointless. Many Cursed Soldiers came from Lithuania and today they behave similarly despite executioners of Polishness and their shameless accusations, which are falsifying the context of events or simply lying. Please applause for the persistent Poles in Lithuania, who have to fight for something that for us seems to be simple, obvious and available in daily life,' said Aleksander Szycht.
The organizers of the picket submitted a petition to the Ambassador of Lithuania in Poland with a protest against discrimination of Poles in the Vilnius Region.
