Statoil's liquefied natural gas (LNG) price for Lithuania is set to fall by more than one-third and the Klaipeda LNG terminal's maintenance costs are to decline by around 23% after Lithuania's gas trade company Litgas completed talks with the Norwegian supplier on a revision of their long-term gas purchase contract. The director of Lithuania's State Social Insurance Fund, or Sodra, says that the fund's deficit has been shrinking and if macroeconomic forecasts prove correct, the budget may return to positive territory in 2017 after running in the red for a decade. The problem of emigration in Lithuania should be resolved by creating jobs and investing in regions, says Lina Antanaviciene, chief advisor to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite on economic and social policy issues. Migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos warned MEPs the refugee crisis was "getting worse" during a meeting organised by the civil liberties committee on 14 January. He said the EU's unity was at stake amid an increase of "populism and nationalism". The commissioner also called on member states to deliver on their own promises and show solidarity to each other: "If Schengen collapses, it will be the beginning of the end of the European project".
