President Gitanas Nausėda is participating in the European Council meeting in Brussels. On Thursday afternoon, the EU leaders discussed support for Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine participated in the meeting remotely.

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda presented the Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania to Mark Thomas Esper, former United States Secretary of Defense, and Admiral António Manuel Fernandes da Silva Ribeiro, former Chief of the Portuguese Armed Forces.

On 21 March, Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė, who is on a working visit to Brussels, met with Olha Stefanishyna, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. The parties discussed bilateral and EU support to Ukraine’s reconstruction and Euro-integration processes, Ukraine’s reform agenda and Lithuania’s potential to contribute to its smooth implementation.

On March 20 Vice Minister of National Defence Žilvinas Tomkus attended a joint EU Foreign Affairs Council in Defence Ministers’ session which agreed on the target 1 million pieces of ammunition of different calibers to be provided to Ukraine within the period of the year. EUR 2 billion will be reimbursed by the European Piece Facility (EPF) in order to compensate to member states for the ammunition given from their stocks.

From March 23 to 24 the Baltic Military Conference, an already traditional event organized by the Ministry of National Defence and the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, will take place to address topical security and defence issues, especially strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defence posture from military and strategic perspectives.

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda took part in the presentation of an open learning website “School of Citizenship” and a discussion on citizenship.

During his visit to Strasbourg, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić. The meeting focused on the issue of Russia’s accountability for the crimes of aggression.

On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda addressed Members of the European Parliament during the plenary session. In his address, Gitanas Nausėda focused on the idea of Europe and Lithuania’s place in Europe, as well as on support for Ukraine, the EU enlargement, the fight against historical revisionism, and the issue of Russia’s accountability for atrocities.

MEPs and the Swedish Presidency of the Council agreed on new energy saving targets in both primary and final energy consumption in the EU.

On 14 March, President Gitanas Nausėda will pay a working visit to Strasbourg, France, where he will address Members of the European Parliament during the plenary session.
