Speaking at the debate on the special role played by Polish-Lithuanian cooperation in regional security architecture within the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the President said that from the very outset of the war, the two countries started to provide extensive financial, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine without delay or hesitation.
“Our joint and resolute action in international politics has significantly contributed to many important processes: introducing EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus, freezing Russian state and oligarch assets, securing Ukraine’s financing through EU instruments, and phasing out Russian energy sources. Lithuania and Poland will continue to work together to hold Russia accountable for crimes of war and aggression,” the President said.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, the primary objective now is to continue providing Ukraine with the support it needs for as long as it takes. “Partnership between Lithuania and Poland in their support for Ukraine until victory has never wavered. We will continue to build on this partnership, and we will not allow the aggressor to dictate the rules,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda stressed the significance of the Lublin Triangle, a trilateral format linking Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine, in Ukraine’s fight against the aggressor and on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration. “We share our expertise and knowledge through this trilateral format, we train Ukrainian troops in NATO standards and practices. The historical past and the experiences of the Lublin Triangle countries enable us like no other to identify the threats posed by Russia. Together, we must constantly reiterate the danger that Russia poses to European and global security and order. Acting in solidarity with the entire democratic and free world, we must secure a stable and peaceful Europe, where all nations can live freely and build their well-being unimpeded," the President said.
