PoliticsAfter the European elections, held in all EU member states on May 23-26, the state leaders gathered to discuss the results. Elections to the European Parliament were held last Sunday on 26th May. Eleven members from Lithuania were elected for the 9th term. Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance participated in the elections in coalition with other national minorities under the name “Block of Valdemar Tomaševski”. Independent economist Gitanas Nauseda won Lithuania's presidential election on Sunday after defeating Ingrida Simonyte, a member of the parliament supported by the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, in the runoff. President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with other leaders of European countries, representatives of NATO and the EU attends the inauguration ceremony of President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. On May 14, an agreement of fourteen members of the European Union on simplification of military mobility procedures was signed at a meeting in Brussels. The programme aimed at concerting and simplifying the procedures applied to cross-border movement of forces between EU members states will be headed by Lithuania.

On 16 May, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius attended the Foreign Affairs Council (Development) in Brussels. EU development ministers discussed how to maintain momentum for the 2030 Agenda towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Sahel. Ministers also aimed at adjusting their views on the financing of the European Union's foreign policy in the context of the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
