EconomyLithuania records Europe's 4th steepest increase in new car registrations in March2016-04-15, 14:31New car registrations in Latvia increased 25.5% in March 2016, which is the fifth steepest growth in Europe, according to the latest report by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association's (ACEA). Lithuania was even 4th. German-owned discount supermarket chain Lidl on April 14th opened a logistics center close to Lithuania's second-biggest city of Kaunas as it prepares to launch retail operations in Lithuania. Lithuanian companies were last year as never before active in investing in Sweden, Verslo Zinios business daily cited experts as saying. Lithuania, which lost the Russian market almost two years ago, has exported its first shipment of meat products to the United States, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said on April 12th. The gross value added per person employed amounted to, on average, EUR 24 976. Vitas Vasiliauskas, board chairman of the central Bank of Lithuania, will head the bank for another five years. Rokiskio Suris (Rokiskis Cheese), one of Lithuania's largest dairy companies, netted 3.895 million euros in audited consolidated profit in 2015, up from 383,000 euros in net consolidated loss in the year before. Statistics Lithuania informs that in February 2016, compared to January 2016, construction input prices decreased by 1%. The change was mainly influenced by a 4% decrease in wages and salaries. Biovela Group, the leading Lithuania's meat processing company, plans to send its first shipment of beef products to the United States in the near time. |
