EconomyOnline travel giant Booking.com plans to open a customer service center in Vilnius in April 2018 and to create up to 900 new jobs within five years. Maxima Grupe (Maxima Group), the leading Baltic retailer that owns the Aldik retail chain in Poland, has signed an investment agreement on the acquisition of Stokrotka, a chain of 410 convenience stores in the neighboring country. Rainbow Tours, Poland's second-largest tour operator, is entering the Lithuanian market in early December and should offer more directions for clients. Statistics Lithuania informs that in October 2017, based on provisional data, industrial production totalled EUR 1.79 billion at current prices and, compared to September, seasonally and calendar adjusted, decreased by 1% at constant prices (unadjusted – increased by 2.2%). Ireland's budget airline Ryanair has announced intentions to fly passengers from Lithuania's second-largest city Kaunas to two resort cities, Burgas in Bulgaria and Rimini in Italy. Lithuania's central government and local authorities collected a total of 6.702 billion euros in budget revenue in January through October 2017, which is 1.7% above the projected level. Lithuania's Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (Energy Distribution Operator, or ESO) plans to invest around 219 million euros in installing some 2 million smart electricity and gas meters within five years. The Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda handled 35.129 million tons of cargo in January through October 2017, a rise of 5.5% from 33.292 million tons a year ago. Lithuania's Butinge crude terminal, which is owned by Orlen Lietuva, the Lithuanian unit of Poland's PKN Orlen, handled 8.047 million tons of crude during the first ten months of 2017, up by 4.4% year-on-year. Lithuania's urgent parcel company TNT, owned by US parcel company FedEx, posted 24.2 million euros in revenue for the last financial year, netting a profit of 975,000 euros. |
