In II quarter 2017, the number of foreign guests received by Lithuania’s accommodation establishments totalled 443.8 thousand (by 5.9% more than in II quarter 2016). The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled 273.5 thousand (by 3.7% more than in II quarter 2016), from non-EU countries – 170.3 thousand (by 9.7% more). More than third (38.5%) of the foreigners accommodated were guests from the neighbouring countries – Poland (11.5%), Belarus (9.5%), Russia (8.9%), and Latvia (8.7%). Compared to II quarter 2016, the number of quests from neighbouring countries grew by 7.5%. The number of guests from Asian countries increased: from China – by 56.1, South Korea – by 33.3, Israel – by 18%; meanwhile, the number of tourists from Japan decreased by 7.1%.
More than half – 57.1% – of foreign tourists stayed in Vilnius.
In January–June 2017, accommodation establishments received almost 1.3 million tourists, or by 7.7% more than in the same period of 2016; the number of foreigners amounted to 692.6 thousand (by 6.1% more).
The number of Lithuanian’s residents accommodated totalled 340.8 thousand, which is by 9.1% more than in II quarter 2016.
A quarter (25.8%) of tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Druskininkai – 81.3 thousand, Palanga – 80.5 thousand, Birštonas – 25.4 thousand, Neringa – 15.4 thousand guests. Against II quarter 2016, the number of guests in the accommodation establishments of resort towns grew by 16.8%.
In II quarter 2017, the country’s hotels and motels accommodated 616.2 thousand tourists, or by 8.5% more than in the same quarter of 2016. Out of that number, 542.4 thousand (88%) stayed in the hotels and motels of the major cities and resort towns. Against II quarter 2016, hotel and motel room and bed occupancy rates grew by 3.6 and 1.3 percentage points respectively.
In II quarter 2017, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated 266.6 thousand tourists, which is by 4.2% more than in II quarter 2016; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 226.6 thousand, or by 4.4% more.
