On July 29 Defence Attachés of France rotated during a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. Outgoing Defence Attaché Col Stéphane Loechleiter was awarded the Medal of Merit by Vice Minister of National Defence Eimutis Misiūnas in recognition of his merits in strengthening bilateral Lithuanian-French defence cooperation. Vice Minister of National Defence also wished to the new Defence Attaché Lt Col Frédéric Lemoine good luck and to continue strengthening the already intensifying cooperation between Lithuania and France.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas sent a joint letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei, the Minister of Energy of Belarus Victor Karankevich, and the Minister of Emergency Situations of Belarus Vladimir Vashchenko, urging them not to start operating the nuclear power plant (NPP) in Belarus without eliminating the shortcomings of the facility.

On 27 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius had a telephone conversation with Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Al Safadi. The Foreign Ministers discussed topical issues of bilateral relations and highlighted their mutual interest in developing cooperation in the fields of information technology (IT), financial technology (FinTech), life sciences, and cyber security.

President Gitanas Nausėda took part in a commemorative event to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Sumner Welles Declaration.

The European Commission has approved a €2.6 billion (PLN 11.5 billion) Polish scheme to support companies affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Framework.

The Commission, on behalf of the EU, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ukraine on macro-financial assistance (MFA). It is part of the €3 billion MFA package that the Commission proposed for ten enlargement and neighbourhood partners to help them limit the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. The EU has shown solidarity with Ukraine in the face of the pandemic and has mobilised already an assistance package of €190 million in grants to help Ukraine respond to the immediate health crisis and mitigate the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.

The Baltic airspace is protected by a German Eurofighter detachment that strengthen the Baltic Air Policing Mission conducted from Šiauliai. The German Air Force detachment from the Tactical Fighter Wing 21 deployed last week on the basis of bilateral agreement with the United Kingdom: it joined the already deployed Royal Air Force detachment and the Spanish Air Force detachment enhancing the mission.

Baltic foreign ministers Urmas Reinsalu, Edgars Rinkēvičs, Linas Linkevičius expressed support for a process shaped and driven by Venezuelans to establish an inclusive transitional government soon that will lead the country into free and fair presidential elections.

On 20 July in Tallinn, Estonia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in the traditional annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Baltic states and Germany, which focused on the European Union, security, Eastern Partnership and other important foreign policy issues.

President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations to King Philippe of the Belgians and the people of his country on national day.
