President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended a meeting between Baltic and Central European leaders and U.S. President Barack Obama in Warsaw.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė will leave for a working visit to Poland. On June 3 in Warsaw, she will attend a meeting between the Baltic and Central European leaders and U.S. President Barack Obama, and on 4 June, at the invitation of Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski will participate in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Poland's movement for freedom.

"We are deeply concerned by the recent arrests and detentions of a large number of peaceful human rights defenders, lawyers and intellectuals including Pu Zhijiang, a lawyer, Hu Shigen a lecturer at Beijing University, Xu Youyu, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Liu Di, a writer and Hao Jian, a professor at the Beijing Film Academy.

On Friday (30 May) afternoon a trilateral meeting on energy security between EU Energy Commissioner Oettinger, Russian Energy Minister Novak and Ukrainian Energy Minister Prodan took place in Berlin.

With the elections over, many of the newly elected MEPs are now coming together to form or join transnational political groups in the Parliament on the basis of their political affinities. Political groups enjoy certain advantages, but to be recognised as a group, they need to meet some requirements. President Barroso spoke earlier today with Petro Poroshenko (whom he had previously met in Strasbourg on 12 March) on the phone to congratulate him on the results of the Presidential elections in Ukraine. He praised the high turnout and the fact that the elections took place largely in line with international standards. President Barroso reiterated the EU's commitment to support Ukraine and recalled the concrete action taken so far. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of constitutional reform and welcomed Petro Poroshenko's willingness to engage in dialogue with Russia. The President expressed his wish that the dynamics created by the election can reunite all Ukrainians and constitute a new start for Ukraine.

Today, at the Office of the Government Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius has met with a United States Congress delegation, on its tour in Lithuania, led by Senator for Oklahoma James Inhofe.
