WorldJoint press statement following the second Partnership Council meeting between the EU and Armenia2019-06-16, 15:12The second Partnership Council meeting between the European Union and Armenia took place in Brussels on 13 June 2019. The Council reaffirmed the commitment of the EU and Armenia to implement effectively the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This ambitious agreement can play an important role for the modernisation of Armenia, in particular through legislative approximation to EU norms in many sectors. The Council highlighted the paramount importance of the rule of law and respect for human rights, which includes an independent, efficient and accountable justice system. On 5-6 June, the Political Directors' Meeting of the initiative of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE) took place in Reykjavík. On June 5 Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas assured Deputy Minister of Defence Bekim Maksuti that “Lithuania supports the aspiration of North Macedonia to become a full-fledged member of NATO and the European Union, as well as the open door policy of the Alliance, and hopes that North Macedonia will manage to achieve the progress it needs.” Vice Minister accentuated that “membership in the Alliance not only brings countries closer together but also commits them to ensure a stable security environment in the region and the world.” On 11 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi. We, the Foreign Ministers of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, Hungary, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic reiterate our continued support for the Western Balkans on their European path. The EU enlargement process has a positive transformative power in the Western Balkans and is an investment in peace and stability in Europe. It is essential to ensure the overall progress of the region. The EU needs to fulfil its unambiguous commitment to the Western Balkans European integration. There is no “plan B”. President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Deputy Managing Director at the IMF Tao Zhang. Global and Lithuanian economy prospects, development of the financial technology sector as well as the role of IMF was discussed at the meeting. On 6 June, during his official visit to Croatia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, together with the Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Željko Reiner and the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia Andreja Metelko-Zgombić, officially opened the Embassy of Lithuania in Zagreb. President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Speaker of South Korean National Assembly Moon Hee-sang. Confirming that a credible enlargement policy is a geostrategic investment in peace, stability, security and economic growth in the whole of Europe, the Commission adopted on 29 May its annual assessment of the implementation of reforms in the Western Balkan partners and Turkey, together with recommendations on the next steps for those countries. Chancellor of the Government: Lithuanian business looking for opportunities in China’s market2019-06-02, 14:02Chancellor of the Government Algirdas Stončaitis has met with You Quan, Head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to discuss the good and friendly bilateral relations, and express appreciation of the recent visits of China’s top officials in Lithuania, particularly focusing on the bilateral commercial and economic cooperation. It has been emphasised that China is a very important Lithuania’s trade partner, and that trade and investment between both countries has been gaining momentum, particularly the cooperation in financial technologies, lasers and life sciences. |
