Trains might be safer and less polluting than other transport modes, but only 6% of passengers opt to travel this way. The EU's fourth railway package aims to make rail travel more attractive by creating more competition and a common certification scheme for trains. The next time you see a bee buzzing around, it's worthwhile remembering that much of the food we eat depends significantly on pollination these insects provide. But bees and other pollinators are declining globally, particularly in North America and Europe, putting this essential role in doubt.

On the occasion of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad streets of Vilnius were full of white and red colours and pounding with cheerful songs of inhabitants of Vilnius region. Poles from around the Lithuania came to Vilnius to participate in the march. During the march the Day of the Flag of the Polish Republic and the May 3rd Constitution Day was as well honoured.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with children made the kites that will be raised along with the logo of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The role of journalists as democracy's watchdogs is proving increasingly hazardous. Not only have thousands of them lost their job due to the crisis, but they are also at risk of being arrested, kidnapped or even killed in the line of duty. To ensure the freedom of the press and access to information, European Parliament (EP) is currently working on new initiatives.

On Saturday 4th May the march on the occasion of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad is coming back to the streets of Vilnius after a three-year break. President of the Association of Poles in Lithuania Michal Mackevič underlined that the organisers expect more than 10 thousand people to attend the march. 

Within the celebrations of the International Day of Solidarity of Workers in Vilnius there was marching and concert organized. The cortege set off the Parliament and marched through Gediminas Avenue, Vilnius St. and Green Bridge to reach the White Bridge, where Trimitas brass band, dance groups, band Šeškai, Skyders and Rebelheart were performing.

"Come along to express your citizenship and explore the corridors of Europe." - every citizen of European Union is invited on the official site of European Parliament. This year's Festival of Europe takes place on Saturday 4 May (Brussels and Luxembourg) and 19 May (Strasbourg).

Brain diseases cost Europe €798 billion in 2010 and this will go up drastically in the coming years due to the continent's ageing population. By 2025 one in five Europeans will be 65 or over, resulting in more degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer disease and Parkinson disease. In May the European Month of the Brain will be held to call attention to brain research and health care issues. A special workshop was held at the EP on 23 April to discuss what could be done about brain disorders.

The Serbs from Kosovo protest and feel left by their compatriots. Ten thousand demonstrators showed their indignation by shouting "Treason, treason" on the streets of the Kosovska Mitrovica city.
