On Monday, the meeting of the EU's Chief Medical Officers and Chief Medical Care Officers will commence in Vilnius. The event will cover the EU's vaccination situation, best practices in dealing with youth's mental health issues, advanced medical care practices, and the future of caregivers. It's a traditional semi-annual meeting, organized in the country presiding over the EU Council.

4th October, Brussels. The Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER I) mandated Lithuanian Presidency to start negotiations with the European Parliament on the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).

President Dalia Grybauskaitė welcomed the participants of the Lithuanian-Ukrainian youth's civil initiative "One Heart" and the winners of the drawing competition.

Budgets Committee MEPs reversed the Council's proposed cuts in investments to stimulate growth and jobs in 2014 during a long voting session on Wednesday and Thursday. They also reversed cuts in funding for international policy, such as humanitarian aid to the Middle East and refugees. Parliament's own budget was substantially reduced.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė opened a European Competition Day conference. It is an event of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council bringing together representatives of competition authorities, international organizations, business and academic communities. The list of participants includes the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Competition, Joaquín Almunia, representatives from Microsoft Corporation, heads of competition authorities from Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, as well as competition law practitioners and academics.

On the 3–4 October the 7th European Quality Conference will be held in Vilnius. The Conference is organised by the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania, currently chairing EUPAN, the European Public Administration Network. About 300 participants representing the government institutions and organizations from public sector and education of the EU member states will take part at the event.

The finalists for this year's Sakharov Prize have been named as Belarusian political prisoners Ales Bialatski, Eduard Lobau and Mykola Statkevich, NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden and Pakistani campaigner for girls' education Malala Yousafzai. The laureate will be selected by EP president Martin Schulz and the leaders of the political groups on 10 October and the ceremony will take place in Strasbourg on 20 November.

What are the most effective ways that lead to tangible results in applying the social and economic potential of culture and the creative industries? What measures could be used to integrate culture into other public policy fields and decision-making processes at the European, national, regional and local levels? These and other important questions will be discussed by the EU Ministers for Culture and Audiovisual Affairs in the informal meeting to be held in Vilnius on 1-2 October.

A universal charger for all mobile phones should be introduced to cut costs and waste for users, proposed the Internal Market Committee on Thursday, in an amendment to a draft law on radio equipment. The committee also cut some red tape, by deleting a rule that would have required manufacturers to register certain categories of devices before placing them on the market.
